Glossary

There abounds many terms, phrases, metaphors, and other words within the Bible that are used to express meanings. Often, two or more of these are used to express the same idea or meaning. Given todays many and varied denominations, beliefs, traditions, and false teachings, these terms, phrases, metaphors, and other words can have several different meanings which defer greatly. This dictionary defines how the terms, phrases, metaphors, and other words that are used as topics or categories are to be understood within at least the context of this website and its commentaries.

1st Resurrection -

70 A.D. - marked the "time of the end", not the end of time. At this time, a very important event took place that is rarely discussed in churches today. It marked the completed transition of the new Kingdom of Heaven. It was the fulfillment of prophecy regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, carried out by the Roman armies under Titus. In 66 A.D. Cestius Gallus marched his Twelfth Legion from Antioch and surrounded the city, and could have taken it easily. But instead, and for no aparrent reason, he left. This is known as the greatest military blunder of all time and was the fulfillment of Luke 21:20. This stirred the Jewish rebellion with false hope, and greatly angered Rome. In 70 A.D. Titus, son of Emperor Vespasian and prince of Rome, united four Roman legions and destroyed the city of Jerusalem and its temple. This was the end of the nation of Israel as God chosen people. It was the end of the Old Testament, the Levitical Law and cermonies. It was the end of animal sacrifice.

Adoption - every elect person of God will be adopted as a child, at the time determined by the Father. This occurs during regeneration, without any knowledge by the person. Every adopted child begins in disobedience and is chastened of the Father. Those, who are exercised by the Fathers chastening, then freely choose to convert to a new and living way yielding the fruits righteousness. Ephesians 1:5, Hebrews 12:6,11

Baptism - there are three (3) baptisms used in scripture.
  1. The first, and least taught, baptism takes place at regeneration. It is a spiritual cleansing and is the same as the "washing of regeneration" referred to by Paul in Titus 3:5 and the same as being "born of water" referred to by Jesus in John 3:5. Paul uses this metaphor in Romans 6:3-4.
  2. The baptism of the Holy Spirit can occur next, or after water baptism for church membership.
  3. Water baptism can occur before the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, or after. But neither can occur before the washing of regeneration.
Book of Life - is NOT a book which contains all the elect of God. This idea is not supported anywhere in scripture and is a fabrication of man. It is a book which has been written SINCE the foundations of the world. It was not written "before the foundations of the world" when God chose a people unto Himself. Therefore, it cannot be related to the election of His people. It does not contain the names of His elect, which have been bequeathed eternal life, but instead, contains the names of His elect which have received the earnest of their inheritance and have laid hold on eternal life. Why else would Moses have such great fear that God would remove Isreal from the book of life?

Death - will always refer to Spiritual Death. Every person who has not converted is Spiritually Dead. Not only ALL the unregenerate, but also the regenerate disobedeint. The Spiritually Dead are those who are under the influence of the Carnal Man. Whether involuntarily as the unregenerate, or voluntarily as the regenerate, who yield themselves servants unto sin, the end of such things is death.

Disobedient Children -

Election - can be either the Election of God or the Election of Grace. The Election of God refers to His chosing a people unto Himself before the foundation of the world. The Election of Grace refers to those who are provoked into becoming a part of the remnant, a part of the same lump as the firstfruit, partaking of the root. It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Eternal Life - should never be understood as a length of time, but instead a measure of quantity. It is not only the quantity of the Life, of which we look forward to, but can also be the quantity of Life that we have in this present world. Bequeathed to all of God's children at regeneration, it is reserved for them in immortal heaven. But God has made provision, by promise, for His obedient children to "lay hold" or take current possession of an earnest of this inheritance, through faith in Christ.

New Birth - does NOT occur at regeneration. It is only possible under the New Testament. It was not possible for those of the Old Testament to be "born again" when they converted. To be "born again", or born anew means to be "born of the Spirit" or as Peter stated it, "born of God". It is when a regenerate person is "transformed by the renewing of the mind", and is being renewed daily by the Holy Ghost. It occurs when the person converts to a life of obedience unto God. This change is manifest outwardly, and is significant enough that all who knows him takes notice. The person will demonstrate changes in behavior, morals, speech, etc... and the fruits of the Spirit will be rippened.
