At regeneration a person is rescued from the dominion of darkness and transfered to the dominion of Christ.

The chosen of God, being predestinated to adoption, were also predestinated to receive an inheritance of eternal life and eternal salvation.

The chosen of God were predestinated to be adopted as children, having been made acceptable by God to Himself by Jesus Christ. This is the core of free grace.

These trees are only capable of bearing good fruit, and as in John 15, are threatened to be removed because of unbelief and/or an absence of good works. If they do not start bringing forth fruit meet for repentance, as John warns them, they will be removed from the root.

Jesus was in fact stating that no man can come to Him, no one can convert, unless the Father first delivers the person into Christ’s care by rescuing him from the power of darkness, which is the second birth or regeneration.
