The two perspectives of Eternal Salvation

There is only one salvation ever mentioned in scripture. This one salvation, however, does have two perspectives which must be rightly divided before the fullness of the glory of God can be revealed.

Does the Holy Spirit come and go depending on obedience or disobedience?

Scripture reveals that the Holy Spirit is given in measure. Scripture also reveals that we can quench the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we can quench the Spirit in certain aspects of our lives, or completely. We must put on the new man. As we put on the new man the old man is removed. As we put on Christ the carnal man is subdued.

    What change occurs at regeneration?

At regeneration one is adopted by God as His child. At regeneration one is adopted by God as His child. During regeneration a change in ownership also occurs. And there is a loosening which occurs, the shackles are removed and the way of escape is made possible.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works

So often, so many think they can judge those who are regenerate by observing ones works, yet this passage teaches that works are not always manifested.

Matthew 22:14 For many are called but few are chosen

Many of God’s children are called to be obedient; called to live righteously, but few are actually chosen. In order to properly understand what Jesus meant, we must allow scripture to interpret scripture. We can do this by studying Paul’s teaching on the election of grace.
Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also [...]

John 6 - I am that bread of life

When Jesus is tempted in the wilderness, he reveals a great truth in his rebuke of the tempter as He proclaims, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins

Christ suffered one time, a single act for all of whom He was the sacrificial offering, the righteous for the unrighteous; the innocent for the guilty. “Once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself”. “Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many”, for if this were not true, then “must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world”, each time a person believed and converted.

Ephesians 1:5-6 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children

The chosen of God were predestinated to be adopted as children, having been made acceptable by God to Himself by Jesus Christ. This is the core of free grace.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 Every man’s work shall be made manifest

All will suffer loss, for all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, and continue to do so every day. They are all sinners, there is none righteous. But our loss is limited by our obedeince.

Hebrews 12:11 unto them which are exercised thereby

Hebrews 12:6-8 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of God. If you think your earthly father punished you, be even more affraid of the hand of God, when in His wrath He punishes His disobedient children.

Matthew 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner

There are two types of children, those who are obedeint and those who are disobedient or rebellious. God deals with each of these types in different ways. The obedient are regarded as precious, and the disobedient are chastened. That is the proper teaching of these passages.

Matthew 3:11 He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire:

There are several passages where fire is used by God in chastening His children, and is described as a purification, such as removing impurities from gold. It is this fire to which John makes reference in this passage. John makes reference to two possible outcomes for the children of God. If they believe and are [...]

Romans 11:15-25 For if the casting away of them [be] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?

These trees are only capable of bearing good fruit, and as in John 15, are threatened to be removed because of unbelief and/or an absence of good works. If they do not start bringing forth fruit meet for repentance, as John warns them, they will be removed from the root.
