Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

We read, from the the second passage in Genesis 1, that as God moved upon the face of the waters there was nothing but darkness and water all around. Light had not yet been created. Have you ever been in complete total darkness? Have you been deep within a cave with no light? If you have, you can relate to what it must have been like. It is so dark you can’t even tell if you have your eyes open.

And then God spoke four very simple words and light was created. But there is more revealed here if you listen closely to the written words.

After God created light He had to divide it. This means that He had to withdraw it. God’s word was so powerful that when He said “Let there be light”, there was light, nothing but light! His word being so powerful, eliminated all darkness. Darkness no longer existed anywhere. He had to withdraw the light to allow darkness to exist once again. Can you see this word picture in your own mind? How great and wonderful is the glory of God!
