All will suffer loss, for all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, and continue to do so every day. They are all sinners, there is none righteous. But our loss is limited by our obedeince.

Not all of God’s children are excercised by His chastening, not all are affected and learn to be obedeint.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of God. If you think your earthly father punished you, be even more affraid of the hand of God, when in His wrath He punishes His disobedient children.

There are two types of children, those who are obedeint and those who are disobedient or rebellious. God deals with each of these types in different ways. The obedient are regarded as precious, and the disobedient are chastened. That is the proper teaching of these passages.

There are several passages where fire is used by God in chastening His children, and is described as a purification, such as removing impurities from gold. It is this fire to which John makes reference in this passage.

Romans 11:15-25 For if the casting away of them [be] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?
These trees are only capable of bearing good fruit, and as in John 15, are threatened to be removed because of unbelief and/or an absence of good works. If they do not start bringing forth fruit meet for repentance, as John warns them, they will be removed from the root.

Whether a tree or a branch, the primary lesson is that if a person does not produce fruit, he will be removed from the source that permits him to be fruitful.

We love Him, because He first loved us. God acted first by forgiving His chosen people of their sins by providing a lamb without blemish to atone for their sins.
